Francesco De Maio – Italian Ceramic Tradition Since 1494

Born in 1494 in Vietri sul Mare, Francesco De Maio is the most established representative of handcrafted majolica ceramics inspired by the light and colors of the Amalfi Coast. Blending a five-century-old tradition with contemporary design, the brand is renowned for its iconic collections, from Gio Ponti’s Compasso d’Oro award-winning Blu Ponti series to Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva’s Midollino and the Van Gogh Collection, a tribute to art history.

In its workshops in Nocera Superiore, tiles are still hand-painted one by one by master artisans, offering bespoke solutions with a variety of surfaces and color options. Through the Museo della Ceramica, it preserves the rich ceramic heritage dating back to the 15th century, standing not only as a manufacturer but also as a living cultural memory.
